Each month, we will be peering into the nuances of each Major Arcana card in the Tarot deck and delve into its interpretation in that cycle.
Each Major Arcana card in the Tarot, typifies a particular Solar Cycle, a Theme and a Numerological insight. Major Arcana cards are 22 in number and typify each of the 22 Hebrew letters that are described poetically in Psalm 119 of the Holy Bible. Each Hebrew letter is more than a letter or even a word. - Rather it is a conceptual representation of how the Higher Self is expressed in our earthbound existence.
The Solar period when the Sun is in Gemini occurs between May 21st and June 20th and is represented by THE LOVERS. The Sun is in Mutable Air! Intelligent, perceptive and versatile, the sign of Gemini is ruled by Mercury. Mercury is the planet of communication and perception, It also represents the impulse to acquire and provide information. Geminis are the data keepers of the zodiac and have a remarkable ability to see both sides of the question simultaneously. In mythology, Mercury is seen in many guises. Sometimes the trickster, sometimes the teacher - often the fleeting thought that is lost in action.
THE LOVERS represents the principle of the art of relationship or relating. The esoteric title of this card is The Children of the Voice or The Oracle of the Mighty Gods. On the Tree of Life, it is the 17th Path of Disposing Intelligence, called Zain and the bridge that connects Binah (the Great Mother) and The Son (Tiphareth). Form emerging from pure and righteous consciousness is demonstrated and exalted on this path.
In Numerology, THE LOVERS is the 6th Key and shares a kinship with the 15th Key, THE DEVIL. Most decks depict THE DEVIL as a dark and powerful jailer, Madness and deception is seen when one tries to hold love prisoner. Often the physical essence of relationship or the daunting limitations of time can can rob us of the true joy of unbridled passion. Some decks represent this trump as the ancient god, Pan, keeper of the forest and the natural instinct for survival and proliferation of our species. These cards remind us to keep our sense of humor and remember that love is always tripping down the garden path.
If your birthday or your current numerological year add up to or can be reduced to 6 (1+5=6), your ideas and ideologies seek to manifest in a memorable manner. The 6's in the pips or Minor Arcana express the fruits of the challenge met in the 5's. Both THE LOVERS and THE DEVIL cards demonstrate our ability to create or re-create a new consciousness and share our heart's desire and our Higher Self with another. If THE LOVERS or THE DEVIL present in a spread with accompanying 6's, flexible and resilient skills much be applied to each step of your journey to create successful relationships.
Next, we pass through the next Solar period of Cancer which occurs from June 21st and July 21st. The Sun is in Cardinal Water. Nurturing, supportive, sensitive and tenacious, Cancer is ruled by the Moon. The Moon is a satellite of reflection and magnetism. Although often seen as a feminine or maternal archetype, the Moon represents fertility and the phases of our seasonal World.
The Major Arcana card that reflects this cycle is
THE CHARIOT. The principle edified by THE CHARIOT is one of change or movement. Ideally, a balance is struck between stillness and activity. The esoteric title for this card is listed at The Child of the Powers of the Waters or the Lord of the Triumph of Light. On the Tree of Life it is the 18th Path of Cheth or the House of Influence. This Path connects Geburah (Strength) and Binah (the Great Mother). Life is both the journeys AND the destinations. We possess strength in our desires but as the Great Mother would teach us, miracles often imply a gestation period on this plane. We must learn when to proceed or be inwardly still to get our bearings.
In Numerology, THE CHARIOT is the 7th Key and shares a kinship with the 16th Key of THE TOWER, revealing that often we must dismantle or eradicate that which has been established to create that which is of a Higher Nature. Anyone who has been remodeled their home or had to reconstruct after a hurricane knows the intensity of this transformation.
If your birthday or your current numerological year adds up to 7 (1+6=5), accepting the challenge of crisis for you will be a natural passage. The 7's in the Pips or Minor Arcana represent courage, creativity and restoration. If THE LOVERS or THE CHARIOT card are present in a spread with accompanying 7's they reveal that interpersonal skills and a balanced approach to change is essential. It is important to know when to speak and when to listen. Listen best to the Still Small Voice. It will be your saving grace!
In June, we feel the glee of early summer. We attend weddings and graduations. We relish a summer vacation soon to materialize. Life expands to the beauty of nature as the elements bid us to seek the Sun. In July, the lushness of summer is all around us. The warmth is intense and the stillness of a shade tree draws us to take our rest from the blaze of the Sun. We sit quietly experiencing the best of both worlds!
